Hooking through the Heatwave… For the Meadow School Balsham Craft Gift & Food Fair 2016!

Across the UK, crafters, makers and local producers are busy building stock for the flurry of Autumn craft fairs and farmers markets that mark the countdown to Christmas. Yes, I’ve mentioned it, ‘Christmas 2016’! If it seems too early for gift buying, spare a thought for the crafters who begin their planning and making before the previous year’s decorations have been packed away.

Why New Year’s diets can kiss my turkey-butt

Screw you diets. Bugger off scales. And hello big, sexy pants, warm vests, brandy butter and goose fat. My princess hair is big, grey and messy and any suggestion that it should be otherwise can do one.

A Woolly Christmas and a Hooky New Year xx

Pic: Natasha Gash @ Sophie’s Smile Christmas Fair 2014 My hook has warped with work this year, and it’s really begun to take off! I am utterly grateful to the crochet monsters in my neck of the words who have embraced the bright (often tacky) madness of what comes out of my workbag, and really helped…

The Space Between (or, that weird week at the end of the year)…

I’m sat surrounded by the detritus of Christmas -it’s a mince pie leftover hangover and oddly I’m not bothered. Yesterday I was bothered; I threw pegs at my husband and it felt better. (I do actually throw things, usually inanimate, but pegs are a new thing). I like this week. It’s a time-gap somewhere between…

Christmas cake in a day…

I have to admit I don’t go a bundle on fruit cake -but the rest of the house do, and even though my mum is ‘doing Christmas’ this year, it’s still nice to have one on the side board. There is absolutely no need to start this thing in August, harbour it in your dresser…

Freebie Festive Pattern: A Crochet Christmas Pud (Chocolate Orange cosy)!

I know, you shouldn’t keep chocolate warm….but if the weather reports are anything to go by, we’re expecting an Arctic winter and therefore you Terry’s Chocolate Orange (or real fruit if you’re a health conscious type) might need to snuggle up to. I view most objects as crochet-able and this was a request from a…

Chunky Crochet MacBook Cover…

Like Apple but not the generic plastic covers? Or don’t have the budget for a super-swanky leather effort (even though we’d all love one really?) At the end of the day I needed something to protect my new laptop from scratches, dust and damage, so I headed to Craftdays in Saffron Walden to pick up…

I love Kilncraft!

So husband tried for about two hours on Christmas morning to try and get me to open the dishwasher…I ignored him/didn’t pick up on the fact that this was a weirdly persistant request until 2 mins before we all piled into the truck to go for lunch…where I found it stacked with this beautiful lot…

Merry Sprout-mas…

By my reckoning, you should have had these little green dudes on to boil about a week ago…I’m off to get fatter, mourn the mountain of waste paper and plastic and try not to cheat at Monopoly xx

All I want for Christmas…

With less than a week to go, I have come to the realisation that I long to be the fairy on top of the Christmas tree, but sadly, due to 6 million mince pies I eat from November through to February, I am only destined to be a dumpy bauble, slightly dented and tucked around…
